Astrion Remote for Home Assistant – Sideloading, Fully Kiosk & Button Remapping Guide

Good job, and the effect here is similar to Sonoff’s NSpanel. Either way, we need a browser card in kiosk mode on the current software, as well as greater flexibility in defining buttons, more definitions, and customization of other cards.

Welcome and thank you for sharing this guide, @Chykan_Hunter.

It’s always exciting for us to see power users exploring new possibilities with Astrion and discovering workflows that we never originally designed for.

The Astrion Remote is fundamentally an Android-based device, so from a technical perspective many of the approaches you’ve documented—ADB access, sideloading applications, kiosk environments, custom launchers, and button remapping—are certainly possible.

A few notes for anyone considering this route:

  • This is currently an advanced / experimental workflow.

  • Opening the device enclosure and modifying the software environment may affect warranty coverage.

  • We have not officially validated every third-party application mentioned in the guide.

  • Some future OTA updates may behave differently depending on installed modifications.

That said, we genuinely appreciate community experimentation because it helps us better understand how users want to use Astrion.

Interestingly, several requests mentioned in this guide are already areas we’re actively evaluating for future development, including:

  • Browser/Kiosk-style dashboard experiences

  • More flexible button assignment and remapping

  • Additional card customization

  • User-defined navigation flows

  • More advanced Home Assistant integrations

  • Developer-oriented APIs and extensibility

One of the goals of Astrion has always been to balance simplicity for everyday users while remaining flexible enough for enthusiasts and integrators.

Feedback like this helps shape our roadmap.

For anyone trying similar experiments, we’d love to hear:

  • What worked well?

  • What limitations did you encounter?

  • Which features would you prefer to see officially supported instead of requiring sideloaded tools?

Thank you again for taking the time to document your findings and contribute to the community.

Several upcoming roadmap items may reduce the need for some of these workarounds, so stay tuned for future updates.
