Global volume button assignments?

I would like to suggest someway to have a way to global assign volume controls.

I am not sure how many others have similar setup as mine but regardless of what media player I use (Kaleidescape, Apple TV, etc) the volume buttons are always for the same device…Marantz Media Player. Yes I can go into each and every TV card I make and assign them but would be nice to have someway to just make it global…and only override if assignments are done in the TV Card. Same goes for Media Player Card.

Hi there — yes, this can definitely be done. You just need to follow the steps below:

  1. First, make sure the remote integration has been added (this is required in order to capture button events).

  2. Create two script actions — one for volume up and one for volume down on the device you want to control.

  3. Go to Automations. Under When, select our remote from the device list, choose the Event trigger, and configure it as follows:

    • From: select -

    • To: select the volume up or volume down button

  4. Finally, under Then do, add the corresponding script action you created in Step 2. The global button event configuration is now complete.

Note: The volume +/− buttons serve special functions on certain device detail pages — for example, adjusting temperature on the climate page or brightness on the lights page. So after you’ve bound a script action, pressing these buttons on those device detail pages will trigger two events. Don’t worry — this is not a bug.
